Most Cargo Theft Risk Countries

Mexico, Brazil and South Africa are most at risk for cargo theft, FreightWatch International (USA) Inc. said Monday in a report. Total cargo thefts in Mexico increased 13% in 2011, with more than 10,000 hijackings occurring on roads and highways reaching an estimated value of losses of $9 billion, according to the Austin, Texas-based logistics security agency. 21% of all theft incidents targeted the food and drink industry. The overall average loss value per theft incident increased 23%, to $189,510 from $154,000, during the 2010-2011 reporting period. Buy D&O Directors Officers Coverage

More companies are increasing the amount of director and officers liability coverage they purchase, while pricing for private companies buying the coverage may be showing signs of a hardening market, according to survey released  by Towers Watson & Co. The report, “Directors and Officers Liability: 2011 Survey of Insurance Purchasing Trends,” surveyed 401 organizations that buy D&O liability insurance. The group includes public, private and nonprofit companies. One-quarter of public companies and 14% of private/nonprofit organizations said they increased their D&O limits of liability.

Safe-Driving Campaign in Virginia

According to Associated Press Virginia high schools will be participating in a safe driving campaign. The three-week campaign called “Buckle Up, Driver Sober” is designed to help teens develop long-term safe driving habits. Remember: disciplined teen drivers equals lower insurance premium. Sponsors of the campaign cited statistics that show the majority of teens killed in highway crashes in Virginia were not wearing a safety belt and that 427 teens have died in alcohol-related crashes in Virginia since 2000.
