Today we have learned about a New York state woman whose own Facebook posting revealed workers compensation fraud has received probation and been ordered to pay restitution, the New York State Insurance Department said.
Alexis M. pleaded guilty to stealing $8,975 in workers comp benefits, the state agency said Monday. Investigators said they discovered a Facebook posting in which Ms. Muniz boasted about her salary as an apartment complex manager. However, she had testified earlier during a Workers’ Compensation Board hearing that she was not employed in any capacity while collecting benefits for an injury she received while working for a previous employer.
In addition to being sentenced to three years probation on felony charges of grand larceny and fraud, a judge last week also ordered the woman to pay restitution.
